Debating and Public Speaking

Debating

Stage Three students at PWPS have been involved in the Premier’s Debating Challenge for the past four years.

Interested children are invited to attend debating workshops early in the year and a team is chosen to represent the school.

The competition involves debating three neighbouring schools on a home and away basis.

The host team is responsible for organizing and running two debates and obtaining an official adjudicator.

The teams receive the topic to be debated by fax the day before the competition and so that afternoon we have a team preparation session after school from 3:30pm – 5:00pm.

The children develop excellent debating techniques, learn to work as a team and build a solid platform for further debating in Secondary school.

The Stage 3 Debating team continued its high level of debating by again participating in the Premiere’s Debating Challenge. Although we won one of  the three round one debates, all debates were close and highlighted the high standard of the debating skills developed by all participating teams. The team; Amanda Resurreccion  (Yr6), Hwei-see Kay (Yr6), Linda Long (Yr6), and Anne Wang (Yr5),  grew in confidence after each debate and with a group of keen future debaters from Year 5 participated in a Gifted and Talented Oracy camp held at Beverly Hills Public School.
